Table linens are the canvas to your tablescape. But how do you know what size you need? Luckily for you, we are experts when it comes to table linens!
Knowing the right size can be frustrating, but we can help you with that! Before we figure out what linens you need, you have to know your venue because that will determine what size linens you need. We would also need to know your preferences such as colors, fabrics, textures, patterns, etc. Once we have all of that information, we can calculate the size.
First, you need to know how big the table is. You have to measure the distance from one side of the table to the other (in inches). After you get those measurements, you have to add the desired drop twice. The drop is the distance from the top of the table to the bottom of the linen. Most of the time, the drop is the same as the height of the table. This is referred to as a full drop or floor length. We always recommend going with a floor length linen because it hides the table legs. It also gives it a more finished look.
In order to get the correct length for a rectangle table, you will need to add the length plus the drop x 2 as well as the width plus the drop x 2.
Length + drop + drop
Width + drop + drop
For example, if you have an 8 ft rectangle table, it would be (in inches):
30 + 30 + 30 = 90
96 + 30 + 30 = 156
So you would need a tablecloth that is 90 inches by 156 inches.
Getting the correct length for a round table is similar, but you only need to know the diameter. It would be the diameter plus the drop x 2.
For example, if you have a 5 ft round table, it would be (in inches):
60 + 30 + 30 = 120
You would need a tablecloth that is 120 inches for a 5 ft round table.
In addition to the tablecloths, we also have table runners and overlays. These are both personal preferences of course.
A table runner can make or break your table design! Be sure to consider the width of the table, the size of your place settings, and any centerpieces or other decor items that might be on your table. After all, you’ll want everything to look perfect! We have table runners that hang over by a little bit or we have some that drop all the way to the floor. Pro tip: adding a table runner to a wood farm table brings in a pop of color while still showing off the natural wood look!
Overlays make stunning additions to your table designs! We typically recommend overlays on round tables, but they can be doubled up on rectangle tables. You can add an overlay to every table or just a handful of tables. You can choose between a round or a square overlay. Just like our table runners, overlays can either be floor length or only have a short drop. Whatever you choose, we know it will be absolutely beautiful!
Hopefully, this eases the stress of finding table linens for your guest tables. We would love to help you choose the perfect linens! Just give us a call!
